Lorena Louise Grosenbach (née Thomas) of Caldwell passed away March 26, 2016, at the age of 88. She died peacefully at home of natural causes. Lorena was born and raised in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1945. She married Glen Grosenbach on June 8, 1947, and Glen’s career in the Navy kept them moving—from Idaho to Oregon, Washington, California, Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, and overseas to Guam and Taiwan. The family settled in Caldwell in 1973 after Glen’s retirement from the Navy in 1970. As husband and wife, Glen and Lorena parented five children—Norma, Blake, Doug, Marla, and Dan. Glen and Lorena learned to trust God and strived to obey Him according to Proverbs 3:5,6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (KJV). They also desired to serve as lay workers and be neighborly, thanking the Lord for inspiration, ambition, and energy to harmonize with Him and other believers, sharing His love. Lorena was always active in church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, serving in the nursery, and participating in Bible studies. Glen and Lorena were supportive of foreign missionaries, often hosting them in their home, and on occasion traveling overseas to visit. They were members of First Baptist Church of Caldwell. It was their custom to listen to God’s messengers on radio for the last 40 years: Dr. Charles Swindoll, Dr. Adrian Rogers, Dr. David Jeremiah, and Dr. Charles Stanley. In 1967, Lorena completed certification as a licensed practical nurse, training she put to good use both professionally and privately. Lorena played piano by ear, able to play just about any song she knew in any key. Glen and Lorena’s home was often filled with music as each of the children sang and/or played a brass instrument. She was never idle, with her crochet hook and yarn always close by. She crocheted countless afghans and sewed many quilts for family and friends. She also donated blankets to local charities. Lorena said the most important thing in her life happened in 1951 when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. That decision secured Lorena’s home in Heaven, a truth she often sang and talked about. Now she sees her Savior face-to-face. To God be the glory. Lorena was preceded in death by a twin sister, Loretta, who died in infancy; her father, Chester Thomas; her mother, Lora Frances Stevens Thomas Myers; her mother’s husband, Olin Myers; her brother Elvin Thomas and his wife, Marilyn; her sister Lola Mae Myers Saffell; her son Blake Grosenbach; her son Daniel Grosenbach; and her grandson Jonathan Clevenger. She is survived by her husband, Glen; her daughter Norma Nill (husband, Lee); her son Blake’s widow, Donna MacLean; her son Doug Grosenbach (wife, Becky); her daughter Marla Clevenger (husband, Cal); her son Dan’s former wife Cherri Grosenbach; brother-in-law Brad Saffell; brother Ken Myers (wife, Maureen); sister Lynda Johnson (husband, Daryl); and brother Lynn Myers (wife, Gail). Glen and Lorena had 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Lord willing, a memorial service will be held this summer, July 9, at 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Caldwell.
